Recap of PRT’s Bus Line Redesign: East End Neighborhoods Meeting
On Tuesday, February 4th, at 6:00 PM, Pittsburgh Regional Transit hosted a meeting to review the first draft of their Bus Line Redesign for East End neighborhoods, including Lawrenceville, Bloomfield, Garfield, Friendship, Morningside, and Stanton Heights. The meeting was held at the West Penn Nursing School (4900 Friendship Ave) and did not include a virtual component.
This meeting with the East End neighborhoods marked the 78th PRT engagement event since the end of 2024 and was one of the final meetings scheduled before PRT refines the proposed redesign for a second draft. The Bus Line Redesign’s goals are:
- Improved service
- Expanded connections throughout city/county
- Equitable development and access
Although this is a large-scale project, the redesign is a cost-neutral undertaking for PRT, meaning that it won’t cost PRT more or less money operationally once it has been implemented. These efforts have been a result of PRT’s long-range plan from 2021. Although all lines/services will see changes, PRT noted that under this first draft 99.4% of current PRT riders will continue to have access to a fixed route service within 1/4 mile from their home.
For Lawrenceville specifically, there could be up to 9 lines added that travel through or beside our neighborhood: including the D81, D86, D87, D88, D91, O3, O99, N84, and N94. The D reflects the line having a downtown connection, the O reflects the line having an Oakland connection, and the N reflects the line connecting neighborhoods. You can review the new lines on the draft 1.0 map linked here.
Bus Line Redesign 2.0 will be released in early spring and community engagement will run from spring-summer. The goal is to have a finalized redesign by the end of 2025 and for implementation to begin in 2026. Please review the presentation and links below, and be sure to provide feedback on 1.0 by 2/15/2025.
