Recap of Lawrenceville Happenings: Community Led Initiatives 7/11/2024

On Thursday, July 11, 2024, Lawrenceville United and Lawrenceville Corporation hosted the a Lawrenceville Happenings with a focus on Community-Led Initiatives. The meeting was hosted at Attack Theatre (212 45th St) from 6:30-8 PM and also via LU’s Facebook page. There were around 10 in person attendees and 10 online participants.

The meeting was led by LU’s Community Engagement & Program Manager, Emma Gamble, who first introduced the backgrounds of LU and LC before turning it over to the groups involved. The following people presented about their initiatives:

  • Jill Boldin, Parking Pad Palooza
    • Parking Pad Palooza is an annual clean-up and block party, hosted by Jill for her neighbors on Spring Way. The day kicks off with a morning street clean up and ends with an afternoon block party on neighbors’ parking pads. Jill would love to see this event take off throughout the neighborhood and welcomes anyone to reach out with questions.
  • Armin Samii, Better Streets Lawrenceville
    • Better Streets Lawrenceville serves as a mobility advocacy organization in the neighborhood. They have monthly meetings via Zoom on the second Thursday of the month at noon. They organize various mobility-centered advocacy events throughout the year, including sidewalk audits, free bike repairs, and more.
  • Dave Breingan (on behalf of stewardship team), Bernard Dog Run/Park
    • The Bernard Dog Run has been a volunteer created and led dog park along the Three Rivers Heritage Trail for the past 12 years. The original volunteer team is looking to recruit a new stewardship team to led the clean up days which are monthly on the second Saturday of the month from 9-11 AM.
  • Emma Gamble on volunteer clean-ups
    • You can organize your own volunteer clean-up at any point during the year by filling out a request with the Department of Public Works, but LU is here to help and can assist with the application and supply gathering.
