Joint LU/LC statement regarding TRYP Hotel

Lawrenceville United and Lawrenceville Corporation have been in talks with a developer who is pursuing a potential purchase of the TRYP Hotel for a conversion into affordable housing. LU and LC co-host a community review process for large new development projects. As part of that process and our own due diligence, LU and LC meet with prospective developers who are at the early stages, try to understand what public entitlements are needed, and advocate for compliance with neighborhood plans and community priorities.

As organizations charged with representing the community, a core practice of ours is that we don’t take positions on development projects until an open and public community meeting can occur and impacted community members can hear the plans, ask questions, and share their opinions with us. From there, a position would need to be formally voted on by our Boards of Directors. Any proposed conversion of the TRYP Hotel is no different. Our community process is triggered when a public entitlement or letter of support from us is requested. At this moment, plans for the conversion of TRYP Hotel are too preliminary to trigger a community meeting, but there absolutely will be an open and public community meeting if plans move past this stage, and we will not take a position until we’ve heard from the community.

Meanwhile, the TRYP Hotel is under new management and is still open for your events, lodging, coffee and dining. Please call to reserve a room, book an event or stop by to grab some food, a drink and be merry!
